When did Gabby Petito go missing?

Gabby was last seen on August 24, 2021, checking out of a hotel with her fiancé Brian Laundrie in Salt Lake City, Utah.

While Gabby's mother, Nichole Schmidt, revealed that she heard from her daughter on August 27 and 30, she told Fox News she is not sure if it was actually her as only text messages were exchanged.

...It was just a text. I did not verbally speak to her,... she told the media outlet.

...I can't say much, but she's no longer with the van. I don't want to say anything more than that but for people looking for her, I want them to look for her now, not look for that van anymore....

Following the unusual circumstances, Schmidt then reported her daughter missing on September 11 at around 6.55pm sparking a nationwide search for the missing woman.

The remains were later discovered in Grant Teton National Park, where she had been camping with her fiancé when she disappeared.

Who is Gabby Petito's dad Joe?

Joseph Petito, Gabby's father, had issued multiple calls for help in the wake of his daughter's disappearance.

Joe lives in Vero Beach, Florida - where he had moved to be closer to his daughter, according to the Daily Mail.

...We still don't know where she is. Pride isn't an issue right now. My only daughter is missing,... the dad told WPTV on September 12, 2021. ...I'm going to do anything I can. The family, Gabby's mom, we're going to do anything we can to find her....

... 'It's like ' drowning with your hands tied behind you,... Gabby's dad said of Gabby's disappearance. ...You can't describe it. There's nothing you can do. You can't control anything....

“She’s out there somewhere… We won’t stop until we find her.”

He posted a touching tribute to his daughter on Instagram amid authority’s news of finding remains matching Gabby's.

Joseph shared a photo of Gabby standing before a wall with painted wings, writing: “#gabbypetito she touched the world.”

What did Joe say following Gabby's death?

On September 26, the family held a memorial service for Gabby to lay her to rest following the autopsy results.

At the service, Joe said that he wanted people to be “inspired” by the life she embodied.

...So when you leave here today, be inspired by what she brought to the table because the entire planet knows this woman's name now,... he said.

...And she's inspired a lot of women and a lot of men to do what's best for them first. Put yourself first and do it now while you have the time. I couldn't be more proud as a father....

Joe also warned women in toxic relationships to ...leave now... so that way this tragedy does not happen to them.

Just days after, the family then held a press conference, where Nicole showed off matching tattoos that were designed by Gabby prior to her death.

During the press conference, Gabby's family attorney attacked Brian Laundrie, asking him to turn himself in, and said that the Laundrie family ...did not help find Gabby so they will not help find Brian....

On October 3, 2021, Gabby's family announced that they had launched the Gabby Petito Foundation in honor of their late daughter.

...The Gabby Petito Foundation is up and running!,... a post on the foundation's Twitter page read. ...We have a lot of work to do, website is just starting out so be patient with us, we will get there. Thank you for all the support and love!...

The family then repeated a phrase coined by Gabby's dad in an Instagram post after her remains were found at a Wyoming campsite on September 19: ...She touched the world....

A link to the foundation's website is also now live, having previously been ...under construction... in the week since the family first unveiled their plans to launch a charity in Gabby's name at her funeral.

On October 5, Gabby's family went on Dr Phil’s show for an exclusive interview to discuss their daughter’s disappearance.

The first part of the interview, Gabby Petito’s Family Speaks Out – A Dr. Phil Exclusive, premieres on October 5, 2021.

The first part will see the family sharing where they believe Brian is hiding and what they would like to see happen to him if they do find him.

The second part, Gabby’s Parents Come Together, which will air on October 6, ends with the family’s thoughts on the latest evidence in the case.

Joseph spoke about Brian and told Dr Phil: ...He is a coward. I would use some other words but I can't use them on this show....

He also hit out at Brian's parents after they took three days to alert police to the fact their son was missing.

He said that ...anyone in that house is a coward,... adding: ...And they do not know how to stand up for their actions....

Where was Brian Laundrie found?

On September 1, Brian returned home from the couple’s cross-country trip and had hired an attorney but was not cooperating with the police.

On Friday, September 17, his attorney then confirmed his client was missing and the FBI were trying to locate him.

After the discovery of the body, the FBI searched his home for evidence involving the case and his whereabouts.

Brian was being hunted by the FBI after an arrest warrant was issued for the 23-year-old.

As of September 28, 2021, Brian's location was still unknown.

However, on October 21, it was confirmed that human remains were found in the search for Brian Laundrie at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

Local media has claimed that ...skeletal remains... were found near a backpack and notebook belonging to Brian in the reserve.

Brian's remains were officially identified on October 21, 2021, after an extensive search at Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.

The FBI released a statement regarding the find, saying: ...On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton Jr. Memorial Reserve and the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie....

The family lawyer, Steven Bertolino confirmed that Brian's parents were informed of the finding, saying: ...Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s.

...We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie’s privacy at this time....

Following his disappearance, Brian's parents issued a statement through their lawyer stating that they don't know where their son is despite speculation that they were helping him avoid police.

“Chris and Roberta Laundrie do not know where Brian is. They are concerned about Brian and hope the FBI can locate him. The speculation the parents assisted Brian in leaving the family home or in avoiding arrest on a warrant that was issued after Brian had already been missing for several days is just wrong,“ the Laundrie's attorney Steve Bertolino said.

Celebrity bounty hunter Dog the Bounty Hunter also got involved in the search and was determined to locate him.

On Nov. 23, 2021 it was revealed by the autopsy report that Brian Laundrie had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Laundrie's death has also been ruled out to be a suicide.

Gabby Petito's family has not yet made any comments regarding Brian's death.

The family released a statement that said the following:

...The Schmidt and Petito family has been aware of the circumstances surrounding the suicide of the sole suspect in Gabby...s murder,... the statement began.

...Gabby's family will not be making a statement at this time due to the request of the United States Attorney's Office and the Teton County Prosecutor's Office.

...The family was asked to not make any comments and let the FBI continue their investigation. The family was also asked to wait for the United States Attorney's Office to make a determination on whether any additional individuals will be charged.

...When that determination is made, we will have a statement....

The autopsy and cause of death ruling comes over a month after Laundrie's remains were found in Florida's Carlton Reserve.
