RENOWNED ABC and WJLA meteorologist Dough Hill has passed away surrounded by his family, with colleagues paying tribute to the veteran broadcaster.

According to WJLA, Hill passed away Monday in North Carolina.

Doug Hill was a renowned meteorologist in the DC area for over three decades

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Hill was a former Prince Georges County police officer before dedicating his life to meteorology.

Hill was a fixture in the Washington DC area, having spent over 30 years forecasting the weather in The District.

Hill was the meteorologist for ABC 7 News at Noon, 4, 5 and 6pm.

He has been awarded the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and was honored with a Washington Emmy Award for broadcast excellence.

He has also served as a meteorologist for affiliates in Richmond, Virginia, and Detroit, Michigan.

...He was a mentor second to none, always willing to listen and make suggestions - always with an even and reassuring tone, WJLA wrote.

...He was a warm and caring man and exactly the same person in ...real life' you saw on TV all those years. I’ve missed him since he retired. This hurts....

Hill is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, sons Brian and Peter, and daughter Maggie.
