Double fault

BORIS Johnson likes tennis. He knows how costly “unforced errors” can be.

Why does he keep making them as PM?

GettyHow did Boris manage to announce a vast “levelling up” investment in northern rail but let Labour and its cheerleaders se '/ '

Take social care. It’s an area so tricky that successive Prime Ministers have ducked it.

To his credit, Boris hasn’t.

Funding it by hiking National Insurance caused a big enough stink.

Why then tweak the new rules so the poorest pensioners may still see their modest homes wiped out by care costs?

It is a PR gift to Labour in the North and enough to trigger a Tory rebellion.

Likewise, how did Boris manage to announce a vast “levelling up” investment in northern rail but let Labour and its cheerleaders sell it as a betrayal?

One hyperventilating fool claimed it was worse than closing the pits.

Most of the media, social media and Labour and its voters are desperate to shoot Boris down. Why give them ammo?

There’s leading, PM. And there’s leading with your chin.

Chilly Peppa

IF the PM’s CBI speech was meant to show he is a true friend to business — and that he is reasserting his grip after weeks of calamities — it failed spectacularly.

He lost his notes and burbled on about Peppa Pig. On occasion, he can get away with that.

Not this time. And imagine saying “Government should make sure there is less taxation” while presiding over the highest burden in 70 years.

Boris is lucky his opponent is as charisma-free as Keir Starmer, who also went down like a death at a wedding.

No one believes Labour is committed to sound finances when it attacks every massive Tory spending plan as too little.

But Boris needs to take back control of his Government . . . fast.

Parole peril

THE only positive from the Colin Pitchfork fiasco is that the double killer was banged up again before he could harm more girls.

That aside, it has exposed again a broken system which endangers the public.

Gullible parole board members are routinely duped by cunning predators.

Cab rapist John Worboys would be free were it not for brave campaigners and The Sun.

Pitchfork is only back inside thanks to probation officers’ vigilance.

No one should gamble on releasing him again. And the parole system must be rebuilt from the ground up.

Tone deaf

ERASING gender from the Brits is needless woke idiocy, doomed not just to fail but to make life harder for female stars.

ITVAdele may clean up at this year's Brits but how will female artists fair in a male-dominated awards ceremony '/ '

Sure, Adele may clean up this year.

But men have long dominated the Brits and long-term may do so all the more once female-only categories are binned.

If it ain’t broke, why make it woke?
