NETFLIX fans have been left horrified as a group of men recounted being raped as children by priests in a harrowing new documentary.

Procession sees a group of survivors of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church collaborate with a therapist and director to dramatise their stories.

The harrowing documentery has made a big impact on viewers

The documentary follows six men as they open up about their abuse

The six men in their sixties worked with director Robert Greene and drama therapist Monica Phinney to use theatre to come to terms their trauma.

It came after the group sat for a press conference in 2018 to detail how they had been raped by priests following a grand jury investigation into clergy abuse.

Greene hoped to use the art of film-making, and getting the men involved in role-playing their cases, would help them come to terms with their past.

Joe Eldred, Mike Foreman, Ed Gavagan, Dan Laurine, Michael Sandridge and Tom Viviano tell their stories throughout the two-hour long feature film.

Scenes see the men tell details of their horrifying rapes at the hands of clergymen, leaving viewers crying with ...heartbreak... for the men.

...Fascinating and heartbreaking stuff watching Procession,... one man wrote, as a second chimed in: ...One of the most difficult but important films I've seen....

...A tough watch but truly remarkable,... a third Netflix fan added, while a fourth penned: ...Powerful documentary. Blew me away....

...What a documentary. Incredible storytelling. Piece of art,... a fifth concluded.

The drama therapy experiment saw each of the six survivors write their own script to explore how the Catholic church helped enable their abuse.

The documentary reveals that more than 230 priests are known to have been sexually abusive in that area of Kansas, Texas.

Procession was bought by Netflix after it premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in September and was met with positive reviews.

The documentary is also set to be released in cinemas after it was released to the streaming platform last week.
